The Women’s Premier League Auction was held in Mumbai today with the five franchises splurging a combined Rs 12.75 crore on 30 players to shore up their squads ahead of the next season.
A total of 21 Indians were sold for a combined Rs 6.85 crore while 9 overseas stars commanded a cool Rs 5.9 crore. Gujarat Giants purchased the maximum 10 stars while Delhi Capitals the least – three.
Annabel Sutherland and Kashvee Gautam emerged as the two costliest players in the second edition of the WPL auction with each costing their respective teams Rs 2 crore.
Sutherland went to DC while Gautam went to GG.
Amidst the surprising list of unsold players were in the top bracket (Rs 50 lakh) including Kim Garth and Deandra Dottin. Interestingly, Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu went unsold for the second auction in a row.
Of the 165 players who put their names up for the auction, 71 were called up before the teams were asked to suggest players for the accelerated rounds.
