October 16 is observed as World Food Day globally. This day comes as a global initiative to raise awareness about the critical issue of hunger and food security. The theme for World Food Day 2023 is ‘Water is Life, Water is Food. Leave No One Behind.’ While the day is focussed on having a bigger objective, we do see bizarre food recipes emerging on social media almost every day. This comes in as fusion food has gained momentum all across the globe.
For those who don’t know, this trend requires amalgamating different cuisines and is being tried out by most people on a major scale. As there was a surge in the demand, many restaurants managed to develop unique fusion dishes. From Chocolate Gulab Jamun to Thums Up Pani Puri, people have given bizarre twists to the basic recipes.
Today, on World Food Day, we bring you some of the most bizarre food combinations.
Maggi Pizza
The Maggi Pizza recipe has recently surfaced on the internet, much to the dismay of Desi food enthusiasts who are expressing their displeasure. A home cook shared the weird recipe video on Instagram. It starts with deep frying the Maggi noodles and making a paste from semolina, curd, coriander, and salt. After mixing in the fried Maggi, she added baking soda, poured the mixture into a pan, and covered it for two minutes. She then spreads a mixture of pizza sauce, mayonnaise, and Maggi tastemaker on top of the cooked Maggi, along with some vegetables and cheese, before cooking it further to create a ‘Maggi Pizza’.
Thums Up Pani Puri
The video which went viral showed a street stall owner serving ‘Thums Up’ panipuri to a lady who came to taste one of his ‘special’ food varieties. Dilip Da of the Maharaja Chat Centre mentioned that he is famous for serving different types of panipuri or puchkas, which is, chocolate, mango, pineapple, strawberry, coconut water, Rajbhog, along with the common mint variety. Dilip Da prepared the Thums Up Pani Puri by adding the cold drink into a container and mixing it with a bit of spice and lemon. While the woman enjoyed this bizarre combination, online viewers disapproved of it.

Parle-G Halwa
Parle-G biscuits being combined with milk powder to make an Indian sweet dish called Halwa was something that shocked the internet. As both items exclusively stand as all-time favorites in Indian households, netizens expressed their displeasure over the strange blend.

Chocolate Gulab Jamun
Chocolate Gulab Jamun was another such combination. However, many Instagram users have been insisting that it’s just cake pops. The name of Gulab Jamun has been slandered by covering it in chocolate: this seems to be the general consensus.
Chocolate Pakoda
How many of you enjoy sizzling steaming hot pakodas on a rainy day? Probably all. However, this year also saw your favorite recipe being ruined by adding chocolate. The viral video shows the Indian vendor grabbing a dairy milk chocolate to proceed with the experimental speciality. Pakodas are made by dipping filling made with spices into gram flour batter. Replacing the core ingredients, the vendor dips a bar of entire chocolate into the liquid batter.
