'When India Win, He’ll be Forgotten': Ex-Cricketer Calls Rahul Dravid 'Unsung Hero of Indian Cricket'
As India won the Asia Cup 2023 final, former cricketer Dodda Ganesh drew people’s attention towards Rahul Dravid who often gets criticized for his coaching style

Team India on Sunday mowed down Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2023 final to win the title for the seventh time. Mohammaed Siraj ran through the Lankan batting order, registering his best bowling figures of 6 for 21 in 7 overs. On the other hand, Hardik Pandya (3/3) and Jasprit Bumrah (1/23) made notable contributions with the ball as India bowled out Sri Lanka for 50 in 15.2 overs which is now their second-lowest total in the fifty-over format. In reply, the men in blue chased down the target within 7 overs and 10 wickets in hands, registering their biggest-ever win in terms of number of balls left.

The juggernaut launched by Siraj destroyed Sri Lanka’s batting and left the fans at the R Premadasa Stadium shell-shocked. On the other hand, posts kept pouring in on microblogging site X as the netizens couldn’t get over the ‘Miya Magic’ in Colombo.

But former cricketer Dodda Ganesh drew people’s attention towards Rahul Dravid who often gets criticized for his coaching style. The Indian latter faced the wrath of fans during the West Indies ODIs for experimenting with the bench strength which saw the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli getting benched for two games.

Empathizing with Dravid, Ganesh stated that he would like the Indian cricket team to win the forthcoming World Cup in India for their head coach.

“India on the verge of a thumping win today in the #AsiaCup finals. And, Rahul Dravid is still not trending on X. Well, only the blame goes to Rahul when the team fails, but when the team wins, he’ll be forgotten. Well, the kind of world we live in. I so badly want India to win the #WC2023 for the sake of Rahul Dravid. The unsung hero of Indian cricket #INDvSL,” Ganesh wrote.

Rahul Dravid took charge after Ravi Shastri’s tenure ended in 2021. The losses at the 2022 T20 World Cup and the ICC World Test Championship earlier this year have already raised questions about his job. Since the upcoming ODI World Cup is to be played at home, the fans would be hoping for Dravid to inspire his team to end the 10-year-long draught of ICC titles.
