Batting great Sachin Tendulkar heaped praises on three new inductees in the Hall of Fame – Class of 2023 – Diana Edulji, Aravinda de Silva and Virender Sehwag. Tendulkar posted a note on his X account, formerly known as Twitter, and talked highly of the new troika who joined the elite list of players.

“It’s endearing to see three players – very different from each other and having played in different eras – making it to the ICC Hall of Fame. Senior cricketer Diana Edulji, who was one of the foremost female cricketers of India; Aravinda, who played a pivotal role in Sri Lanka lifting the ‘96 World Cup; and, of course, my friend and partner in crime @virendersehwag, who reimagined batting as a Test opener and started attacking all bowling attacks from the word go. Congratulations to all of them!” Tendulkar wrote.

De Silva had a memorable career with the Sri Lankan cricket team as he also played a pivotal role in their 1996 ODI World Cup triumph.

Sehwag, who played a lot of cricket with Sachin, won the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI WC with the Indian team as his record-breaking career spanned 14 years and over 17,000 runs in international cricket.

Meanwhile, Edulji became the first Indian female inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame thanks to a 17-year international playing career and her pioneering role in establishing the most successful domestic team in Indian women’s cricket history.

The three veteran stars will be inducted in a special on-field ceremony at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai during the first semi-final of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 on 15 November.

ICC Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Allardice commented: “We are thrilled to announce Aravinda, Diana and Virender as the latest group of legends to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.

“This institution continues to celebrate the extensive and vibrant history of the sport through the very best players ever to grace the international stage. These three figures have revolutionised the sport in their own way, and have provided fans with some of the most unforgettable moments in recent memory.

“Their lasting contributions to cricket mean they are richly deserving of their status in the ICC Hall of Fame and we look forward to celebrating the Class of 2023 in Mumbai later this week.”
