Twitter Down Across Globe Due to 'Internal Change' on Platform; Musk Says 'Will Ultimately Need...'
Twitter, in a statement, said some parts of Twitter may not be working as expected right now.

Twitter users across the globe reported issues while using the microblogging site on Monday.

Internet observatory NetBlocks said the issue was affecting image and video content too.

There were more than 8,000 incidents of people reporting issues with the social media platform, according to Downdetector, which tracks outages by collating status reports from a number of sources including user-submitted errors on its platform.

Twitter, in a statement, said some parts of Twitter may not be working as expected right now. “We made an internal change that had some unintended consequences. We’re working on this now and will share an update when it’s fixed.”

During the outage, users trying to click into links were greeted with an error message saying “your API plan does not include access to this endpoint”.

“{“errors”:[{“message”:”Your current API plan does not include access to this endpoint, please see https://developer.twitter.com/en/docs/twitter-api for more information”,”code”:467}]}”

Twitter owner Musk tweeted, “This platform is so brittle (sigh). Will be fixed shortly.”

Responding to another user, Musk said, “A small API change had massive ramifications. The code stack is extremely brittle for no good reason. Will ultimately need a complete rewrite.”

An API, or Application Programming Interface, refers to Twitter software that is made available to outside developers to make their own adaptations of the platform.

Twitter said last month that it will discontinue allowing free access to outside developers as the company seeks new ways to raise revenue.

Since Musk took ownership of Twitter, the platform has been riven by chaos, with major advertisers fleeing, threatening the site’s main source of revenue.
