'That's What World Cricket Needs': Dinesh Karthik on Virat Kohli Making Amends With Naveen-ul-Haq
Dinesh Karthik talked about the Kohli-Naveen patch-up and said it was nice for the duo to brush it under the carpet.

Veteran wicketkeeper batter Dinesh Karthik was elated to see the photo of Virat Kohli and Naveen-ul-Haq patching up and smiling together. During the ODI World Cup match between India and Afghanistan, Kohli and Naveen decided to make amends after their much-talked-about on-field verbal fight in the Indian Premier League match last season. The duo locked horns in the IPL clash between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Lucknow Super Giants where former opener Gautam Gambhir was also involved and had an argument with Kohli.

However, Kohli and Naveen decided to bury the hatchet and the duo hugged it out on Wednesday at Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi.

Naveen faced the heat of Indian fans at Arun Jaitley Stadium as the spectators trolled him massively when he came out to bat and it happened again when he was bowling.

However, Kohli intervened and asked fans to stop booing and taunting Naveen. The gesture was well appreciated by Naveen as both players shook hands and hugged each other.

Karthik talked about the Kohli-Naveen patch-up and said it was nice for the duo to brush it under the carpet.

“There was a little bit of tension in the IPL. But it is nice to see them make up and hug. When Naveen-ul-Haq came to bat, the crowd was cheering Kohli’s name. They really wanted to get under his skin. But it was nice to see them making amends, and I think that’s what world cricket needs.”

“You don’t want to carry on something that is negative in nature for far too long. It’s been at the back of both their minds and it’s good to see them brush it under the carpet. Just happy to see a photo of them smiling together,” Karthik said on Cricbuzz.

Legendary India paceman Zaheer Khan also shared his views on the matter and suggested that Kohli looked determined to give his wicket to Naveen and when the tough phase was over, he decided to make amends.

“When he (Virat) walked out to bat, that time it was like, ‘No matter what happens, I am not going to give my wicket to this guy (Naveen)’. So, that is also important. He crossed that phase, and after that, he saw the opportunity to leave the bitter things in the past and move ahead. It’s not that it might not happen again in the future. It still might happen because both are fierce competitors. “The good thing is that whatever happened, they’ve kind of solidified that now are looking ahead. The competition and fight should stay there but within the boundaries, ” Zaheer added.
