'Most Incredible World Cup Victory I've Seen, Against All Odds': Michael Vaughan Hails 6-time World Champions Australia
Michael Vaughan said that Australia silenced everyone with their performance on the big stage in front of 'Ocean of Blue' at Narendra Modi Stadium.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan has heaped praise on the Australian cricket team for outclassing India against all odds to win the sixth World Cup title with a 6-wicket win on Sunday at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. Australia stepped on the biggest occasion once again and played dominant cricket to beat India who were tagged as favourites before the summit clash.

It was a clinical performance as they bundled out India for a below-par 240 and then chased down the target in 43 overs courtesy of Travis Head’s incredible century.

Vaughan said that Australia silenced everyone with their performance on the big stage in front of ‘Ocean of Blue’ at Narendra Modi Stadium.

“To win a World Cup in India, against this India side, against this crowd, everything about the whole operation of this World Cup has been about India – the force that they are.”

“Australia have completely silenced that on this day in front of so many, on a pitch that is much more suited to the home team than an Australian side. The most incredible World Cup victory I’ve seen, against all odds,” Vaughan was quoted as saying on BBC Test Match Special.

Australia started the tournament with back-to-back losses but found the rhythm after that and just didn’t stop after that. They entered the final with eight wins in a row but India were the favourites for being invincible before the summit clash. However, the mighty Australia held their nerves when it mattered the most as India crumbled under pressure.

Vaughan feels that the current Australian team are living in shadow of the past Australian sides but looking at their records they should be talked about in the same vein.

“If you look at this group of players, you always feel they are living in the shadow of that great side of the 90s and early 2000s. They won three World Cups on the trot and pretty much won everywhere.

“But if you actually start to monitor what this group of players have done in the last few years, they won the World Cup in Australia in 2015, they’ve retained two Ashes in the UK but pretty much hammered England in Australia, they’ve won a T20 World Cup, they’re the world Test champions and now they’re the World Cup winners in India. This group now needs to be talked about in a similar vein,” Vaughan added.
