Kapil Dev Backs Indian Team, Lauds Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Gesture After World Cup Final Loss
The World Cup-winning captain, Dev, showered praise on the Indian team and also spoke highly about the young and upcoming batch that is playing T20Is against Australia.

Former India Captain Kapil Dev lavished praise on the Indian team for putting up a brilliant show during the ODI World Cup 2023. The World Cup-winning skipper has been of the opinion that the final was just a bad day at the office for the side and the players should be lauded for winning 10 games in a row.

“Winning 10 matches on the trot is a big thing. The Indian team played fabulous cricket during the tournament. It wasn’t just our day on the final. Look at some of the other teams, for instance, England. They came in as the defending champions but finished at the bottom,” Dev said at an event launching Golf tournament.

The World Cup-winning captain also went on to say that skipper Rohit Sharma should not compared with someone like him when he was quizzed about how he looks at things since he won the Trophy and Rohit couldn’t.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also consoled the Indian players, including Captain Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli after the World Cup final. The visuals of the same had gone viral on social media. While the Prime Minister’s gesture gathered some praise from former and current cricketers, a section of fans also slammed the gesture.

The former India all-rounder however lauded the PM saying, “It was a great gesture from the PM. It would have given a lot of confidence to the players as well after someone who is sitting at the helm showed that kind of a gesture,” Kapil added.

The focus has now shifted to the T20 format for India as the side is gearing up for the World Cup scheduled to take place next year. The Men in Blue are currently facing Australia in a five-match T20I series at home under Suryakumar Yadav’s leadership.

Talking about the youngsters in the side and their performance so far, the right-handed cricketer said, “It feels good when the team does well. It’s a learning process that continues to go on. One should learn from their mistakes and rectify them.”

Kapil Dev and leading professional services firm, Grant Thornton Bharat are all set to launch the second edition of India’s premier golfing event, Kapil Dev – Grant Thornton Invitational.

“I am thrilled about the upcoming Kapil Dev – Grant Thornton Invitational, building upon the success of last year’s hit event. My heartfelt thanks to Grant Thornton for sharing my vision of growing golf in India, and to DLF for hosting this spectacular event. As we embark on the second edition, anticipation is high, and excitement is double! Looking forward to making this edition another milestone in the exciting journey of growing professional golf in our country,” said Kapil Dev.
