‘Jhoomein Jo Pathan…’: Sachin Tendulkar Wishes Irfan Pathan on His 39th Birthday
Sachin Tendulkar penned a witty note for Irfan Pathan as both cricketers shared the dressing room for a significant period during their illustrious careers

Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan is celebrating his 39th birthday today (on Friday). On this special occasion, Sachin Tendulkar has penned a witty note for his former teammate. Both cricketers shared the dressing room for a significant period during their illustrious careers. Sharing a treasured photograph from that era, Tendulkar wrote on X, “Happy birthday, Irfan. Maze karo aur jhoomte raho kyunki jhoomein jo ‘Pathan’…mehfil hi lut jaaye.” After bidding adieu to professional cricket, Pathan has now been building his career as a commentator. He is part of the star-studded expert panel in the ICC ODI World Cup.

After Sachin Tendulkar’s post surfaced on X, fans rallied to the comment section and expressed their admiration for Pathan. Apart from numerous birthday wishes, some comments accompanied a recent viral picture of Pathan dancing alongside Afghanistan all-rounder Rashid Khan.

The moment was captured at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium where Afghanistan secured a historic victory over Pakistan in a World Cup clash earlier on October 23. Pathan was on commentary duty in the match. After the on-field proceedings were wrapped up, he arrived on the ground and joined Rashid for an impromptu dance, celebrating Afghanistan’s success. The video was able to create a stir on the internet.

Pathan spearheaded the Indian pace attack across formats for nearly a decade. He ranked among the rare breed of fast bowlers who could swing the ball both ways. Pathan scripted history during a Test match against Pakistan in Karachi in January 2006, by becoming the first bowler to fetch a hat-trick in the opening over of a Test. He got the better of Salman Butt, Younis Khan and Mohammad Yosuf to complete his historic hat-trick.

Pathan also played a pivotal role in India’s triumphant run in the 2007 T20 World Cup. The left-arm Indian seamer featured in seven matches in the tournament and took 10 wickets.

He represented India in 120 ODIs and 29 Tests, picking 173 and 100 wickets in the respective formats. He also played 24 T20Is and scalped 28 wickets in total.
