'It's All About Their Hunger': AB de Villiers Thinks Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli Will Play in 2024 T20 World Cup
De Villiers thinks that Rohit and Virat still have hunger in them and he is expecting them to go for the T20 World Cup.

South Africa legend AB de Villiers feels that India batting stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be part of India’s T20 World Cup squad next year as they will try to give the title another shot. Virat, who is arguably the best batter of this generation, has never won the T20 WC despite being the leading run-getter in the tournament a couple of times. Meanwhile, Rohit was part of the 2007 T20 World Cup-winning side but it was a long time back and he would look to add the coveted trophy to India’s cabinet for the second time.

Rohit and Virat have not played a T20I since last year’s T20 World Cup to focus on the ODI format’s showpiece event. However, they have not released any statements regarding their T20I future but the selection committee has been giving chances to the youngsters to get them ready for the next year’s T20 WC.

De Villiers thinks that Rohit and Virat still have hunger in them and he is expecting them to go for the T20 World Cup.

“We just have to see them there (Rohit & Virat). It’s all about their hunger. Do they have the hunger to go there and win the T20 World Cup? I think so. I cannot speak on their behalf but I think they will want to go there and win. T20 World Cup is a short tournament and you do set yourselves up to have another chance of winning a World Cup. So I do see them going there,” De Villiers said on his YouTube Channel.

Meanwhile, the batting legend is impressed by India’s move to give captaincy to Suryakumar Yadav in the absence of Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya in T20Is.

“India captained by Suryakumar Yadav is quite a nice move, I like that. He is a bit of a 360 (degree) player. He thinks differently and is a bit creative. It will be nice to watch him lead his troops in South Africa,” he added.

De Villiers further lauded the team management and selectors of both India and South Africa for picking young players for the T20I series.

“What I liked about both squads was that the players have been rewarded for domestic performances. Indian squad has played who have done well in the IPL, and the South African squad has those who had a great SA20 season. The selectors have gone with these players to see how they handle the pressure with the T20 World Cup next year. Very excited,” he said.
