Legendary India cricketer Virender Sehwag has been inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. Alongside Sehwag, the ICC revealed three names including Diana Edulji and Aravinda de Silva to have been bestowed this honour.
Sehwag is widely regarded as one of the greatest batters to have played the game and is often credited with redefining to the role of a Test opener.
In 104 Tests, he scored 8586 runs at an average of 49.34 and boasted of an excellent strike-rate of 82.23. In 251 ODIs, he made 8273 runs at 35.05 and was part of the team that won the world cup in 2011.

He also represented India in 19 T20Is, winning the inaugural World T20 in 2007.
“I would like to thank the ICC and the jury for inducting me with this honour,” Sehwag was quoted as saying by ICC.
“I feel extremely grateful for having spent a great part of my life doing what I loved most, ‘hitting the cricket ball’. I would also like to thank my family, friends, people I played with, and countless people who prayed for me selflessly,” he added.
Sri Lanka legend De Silva won the 1996 ODI World Cup with Sri Lanka. He played 93 Tests and 308 ODIs during a storied international career.
He retired with a combined 15,645 runs at the international level besides picking up 135 wickets as well.
“I am filled with profound gratitude as I accept the immense honour of being inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. This achievement is a tribute to the dedication, sacrifice, and love that have shaped my cricketing journey,” de Silva said.
“My family, my parents, my sister, my wife and children are my anchor, and deserve the deepest thanks for their unwavering support and sacrifice, which have propelled me towards success. My friends, steadfast companions throughout my highs and lows, have been my pillars of strength.
“To my coaches, teachers, fans and supporters, your relentless belief in me has fuelled my drive to succeed. My mentors and captains have guided and inspired me, and my teammates have been my extended family on this incredible journey. To the ones I have played against, thank you for enriching
my game,” he added.
