'Hadn't Thought I'd Score So Many Hundreds..': Virat Kohli on Nearing Sachin Tendulkar's ODI Centuries Record
Virat Kohli said he had never thought he would score so many runs and hundreds in his 12-year career as he nears Sachin Tendulkar's record of 49 centuries.

Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli has played a massive role in the unbeaten run of the Men in Blue during the ODI World Cup 2023 so far. Chase-master Kohli has been at his best, pacing his knocks according to the situations of the game, helping India pull off remarkable comeback wins against the likes of Australia, Bangladesh, and New Zealand among others.

Whenever India’s top order looked shaky, Kohli stood up and delivered in the crucial moments and he has also been nearing a huge personal milestone. With India all but assured of a place in the semifinals of the World Cup, fans have been raring to see Kohli surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s record of ODI centuries.

The Master Blaster smashed 49 ODI centuries, during his playing days as he recorded a tally of 100 tons across all formats, while Virat has brought up 48 hundreds in ODIs.

Infact, the 34-year-old could have gotten to the illustrious 49 centuries mark to equal Sachin’s record against New Zealand itself in Dharamsala, but the talismanic batter was dismissed on 95.

Looking back on his career, Kohli reflected that he had never imagined that he would score so many hundreds during his 12-year career.

“If we talk about cricket, I had never thought of achieving all, as in where my career is and how god has blessed me such a career span and performances,” Virat Kohli told Star Sports.

“I had always dreamt I’d do this, but I had never thought thing would pan out this way exactly, nobody can plan these things, the way your journey is going, and the way things unfold in front of you. I hadn’t thought that I’d score so many hundreds and so many runs in these 12 years,” he added.

India have won all of their six World Cup games so far, and the Rohit Sharma-led unit will next face off against Sri Lanka on Thursday in Mumbai. It will be another opportunity for Virat to equal Sachin Tendulkar’s facing a Sri Lankan unit against whom Kohli has scored the most centuries compared to all other teams in world cricket.
