Glenn Maxwell Suffers Concussion After Golf Cart Accident, Ruled Out of England Match
Australia allrounder Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out of their world cup match against England this Saturday.

Australia have suffered a major injury scare midway through their ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign after Glenn Maxwell was diagnosed with concussion that has rule him out from their next match against England.

Maxwell suffered a head injury after falling from the back of a golf cart while returning from club house to the team bus.

“He’s been honest with the information he’s provided,” Australia head coach Andrew McDonald said. “He’s doing fine, he’ll start some light exercises today and we feel as though it will be a reasonably straightforward return to play protocol. Suppose the fortunate part was there was no other injury sustained which could have been a lot worse that it currently is.

“Think it rattled everyone to be fair once it came to the conclusion there was a concussion and he was going to miss a game. There was nothing untoward in the behaviour throughout the day, it was a clear cut accident and unfortunately it’s compromised what we are doing as a team.”

Maxwell has been instrumental in Australia’s world cup resurgence after they started with back-to-back defeats to India and South Africa. He broke the record for the fastest century in the history of the competition and has been quite effective with his bowling as well.

McDonald said Maxwell’s absence does leave them a little vulnerable.

“They’ll be a small reshuffle, clearly, around the back end of our batting and no doubt that compromises a bit of our bowling and the way Glenn has performed with the ball. There’s no doubt it leaves us a fraction exposed at the back end in terms of how Glenn’s been performing but Marcus Stoinis does become available all things going well at training today,” he said.

This isn’t the first time that Maxwell has been at the receiving end of a freak accident.

In November last year, he broke his leg after slipping during a birthday party.

Maxwell was chasing his friend when both slipped with the latter landing on the Australian cricketer’s leg leaving him in excruciating pain.
