INDIA Bloc Meet: Opposition alliance INDIA will kickstart a joint campaign for the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections on January 30
The INDIA bloc on Tuesday held the fourth meeting of the opposition leaders to discuss their plans for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The seat-sharing arrangement, the opposition’s concerns about the electronic voting machines and the suspension of MPs from the parliament were some of the points of discussion.
In another major update, TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee pitched for Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge as INDIA’s prime ministerial candidate for the general elections. However, the veteran Congress leader said it is important to win first and everything else can be decided later.
Here are the Top Points from Today’s INDIA Bloc Meeting:
- West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal proposed Mallikarjun Kharge’s name as INDIA bloc PM candidate, sources said.
- The Trinamool Congress along with many other INDIA parties set December 31, as a deadline to conclude talks on seat sharing, sources suggested.
- On seat-sharing arrangement, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said, “Our people in states will try and forge the arrangements. If there is any issue somewhere, the alliance leaders will resolve it here.”
- The INDIA bloc also passed a resolution on EVM concerns as well as the suspension of the MPs from the parliament amid a ruckus over Parliament security breach.
- “We have decided to hold 8-10 meetings across the country. If alliance partners don’t come together on one stage, then people will not know about it,” Kharge said after the INDIA Meet.
- INDIA bloc members will stage a protest on December 22 against the suspension of the record number of MPs from Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
- Sources said INDIA bloc parties have decided to finalise seat sharing by the second week of January.
- Sources also suggest that the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party is ready for an alliance with the Congress in UP but made it clear that they are not willing to have an alliance with BSP in any way.
