Parking of vehicles will not be allowed on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, JLN Marg and Ring Road from Rajghat to IP Flyover on match day

Ahead of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 match between England and Afghanistan on Sunday, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued a traffic advisory with regards to the restrictions and traffic diversions.

The World Cup match is scheduled to take place at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium at 2 pm.

TRAFFIC DIVERSIONS

There will be traffic diversions on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and JLN Marg. The traffic police, in its advisory also said that entry of heavy vehicles and buses would be prohibited on the roads from Daryaganj to Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and from Guru Nanak Chowk to Asaf Ali Road.

ROADS TO AVOID

The Delhi traffic police requested commuters to avoid the following roads:

  • Rajghat to JLN Marg
  • JLN Marg from R/A Kamla Market to Rajghat
  • Asaf Ali Road from Turkman Gate to Delhi Gate
  • Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg from Ram Charan Aggarwal Chowk to Delhi Gate

PARKING RESTRICTION FOR GENERAL VEHICLES

Parking of vehicles will not be allowed on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, JLN Marg and Ring Road from Rajghat to IP Flyover on match day. The Delhi Traffic Police has said that those vehicles — parked on these roads — will be towed away and action against them will be taken in accordance to the law.

STADIUM ENTRY

  • Entry to gate numbers 1 to 7 — located on the southern side of the Stadium — will be allowed from the Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg.
  • Entry to gate numbers 8 to 15 — located on the eastern side of the Stadium — will be entertained from JLN Marg next to Ambedkar Stadium Bus Terminal.
  • Meanwhile, entry to the gate numbers 16 to 18 — located on the western side of the Stadium — will be allowed from Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, near Petrol Pump.

PARKING AVAILABILITY

  • Only labeled vehicles have parking available in the proximity of the stadium, that too, limited parking. The traffic police advisory states that the display of car parking label on the vehicle’s windscreen is mandatory. The vehicle number must also be written on the parking label, adding that, the vehicles without valid parking label will not be allowed to park near the designated range of the Stadium.
  • The advisory said that holders of the car parking label are advised to take Ring Road, JLN Marg, Asaf Ali Road or Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg — U-turn at Delhi Gate is allowed. The entry to the parking lots P1, P3 and P4 shall be allowed from Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, near the Petrol Pump only.

In the World Cup match between India and Pakistan on Saturday — at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi stadium — team India beat Pakistan by 7 wickets. The Pakistani team was fully knocked out at a score of 191, leaving India to chase the goal of 192 runs.

Security arrangements were beefed up in Ahmedabad from day prior to the match, with restrictions over traffic and vehicle entry across the state. Drones were deployed near the venue to keep an eye on anti-social elements. These drones could fly for over 12 hours and at 120 m height and covered an area worth 5 kilometers around the stadium.

Over 11,000 security personnel, including Gujarat Police, NSG, RAF, and home guards among others were deployed in Ahmedabad and at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Only vehicles providing emergency services including fire brigade, ambulances and government vehicles were allowed on the closed roads.

The Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) had also announced that the metro services in the city will be operational for an additional three hours on match days. The metro services in the city will be available from 6:20 am to 1:00 am.

Ahmedabad Traffic Police urged people to book their parking in advance on the ‘Show My Parking’ App to avoid being stuck in traffic.
