CAT 2023: About 3.28 lakh applicants applied for the exam this year, but only 2.88 of them showed up for the test on November 26 according to the reports

The Indian Institute of Management, IIM Lucknow, successfully administered the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2023 on Sunday, November 26. This year’s CAT 2023 was held at 375 test centres distributed over 167 cities in India, with a total participation of roughly 88 per cent. The MBA admission test was administered in three shifts by the IIIM Lucknow. A CAT score is necessary for admission to a number of postgraduate fellow/doctoral courses at IIMs throughout the nation. Other institutes listed as members are able to use CAT results for admission.

According to Career360, attendance for IIM 2023 increased by 1 per cent over the previous year. About 3.28 lakh applicants applied for the exam, but only 2.88 of them showed up, according to the reports. Only 2.22 of the approximately 2.56 lakh registered candidates in 2022 actually took the test. The exam this year had a moderate difficulty level and followed the same structure as the previous year.

According to experts, the morning slot paper in CAT 2023 turned out to be more difficult than the other two. In the instance of the slot 2 test, the VARC portion had 16 RC questions on critical reasoning, while the exam paper included two complex passages with simple questions.

Students will receive three marks for each correct answer and one mark will be deducted for each wrong response. When answering non-MCQ questions incorrectly, there are no penalties. The CAT 2023 test lasted 120 minutes and was conducted in three sessions: 8:30 am to 10:30 am, 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm, and 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm, throughout 155 cities in India.

The three parts of the question paper were Section 1: Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, Section 2: Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning, and Section 3: Quantitative Ability. There were 66 questions altogether on the question paper. The first section featured 24 questions, the second had 20, and the third had 22 questions for candidates to attempt.

IIM Lucknow is anticipated to publish the CAT 2023 results in the second week of January 2024, as per the information bulletin on the website. Prospective candidates may obtain their scorecards by SMS or by visiting the official CAT 2023 website, iimcat.ac.in.
