Vikrant Massey Confirms Vidhu Vinod Chopra's 12th Fail Has Been Submitted for Oscars; Details Inside

12th Fail has emerged as a sleeper hit. Directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and starring Vikrant Massey in the lead role, the film has been submitted for consideration at the Oscars as an independent nomination. This confirmation came directly from Vikrant Massey himself, just ahead of his appearance on Sahitya AajTak 2023.

While on Sahitya AajTak, Vikrant Massey talked about his struggles. In a chat with IndiaToday’s Rahul Kanwal, he mentioned starting his film journey at 15 because he needed to find work. He explained that he didn’t want his college fees to be a burden on his father.

The actor is currently basking in the success of the film. It turned out to be a great hit at the box office. Reflecting on the film’s success, Massey had earlier appreciated the audiences gratitude upon exiting the theatre. Despite being a focal point in the film, he attributed its success to the entire cast. There was a lot of pressure on Massey for the film’s performance. However, the 36-year-old didn’t buckle under it and clarified, “My heart is full. I couldn’t have asked for anything better. When people walked out [of the theatre], they thanked us for making the film and that’s what matters most.”

He further added, “I don’t think the film only did well because of me, the cast was equally responsible. It would be stupid of me to say, I am the only sellable face in the film? The film’s story was bigger than anyone.’

News18’s review of the film read, “Massey as Manoj is the beating heart of the film. He brings a rare vulnerability, honesty and earnest dignity to his character. However, the other loopholes in the film dilute his efforts. Massey gives Manoj his all. His determination to play the part to a T and Manoj’s gumption become one. He lets his eyes do a lot of the talking.”
