Being politically correct has been the most important aspect of Bollywood. Maintaining a stiff upper lip and keeping a strict restrain on giving a frank opinion has been the unsaid rule in B-town. Laughing at oneself or the fellow members of the fraternity has been refrained for long as Bollywood demigods were always believed to be beyond jokes.
Twinkle Khanna seems to be changing the Bollywood trend. In her new avatar as Mrs Funnybones, Twinkle has been giving a lesson or two in laughing out loud. This has come rightly after Alia Bhatt’s cunningly humorous video Alia Bhatt-Genius Of The Year wherein Alia laughed at her own jokes and elevated her popularity by playing the cute, dumb babe.
Twinkle Khanna’s alter ego Mrs Funnybones also the name of her Twitter handle has emerged as the most frank opinion pieces on the issues happening in the society. Daughter of Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia, Twinkle remained in news for last few months as a prominent columnist giving opinion on myriad of issues including section 377 to Arushi Talwar murder case. She got into a spat with author Chetan Bhagat by presenting herself as Baba Twink Dev.
Now, she has made an appearance as an author of ‘Mrs Funnybones: She’s Just Like You and a Lot Like Me’, the compilation of year long funny tweets and entertaining newspaper columns.
Aamir Khan, who was deeply upset with the AIB Roast that took place last year where the AIB team cracked jokes on prominent celebrities of B -Town and also on Salman Khan’s sister Arpita Khan, came for the launch of the book and enjoyed being a part of the roast.
Twinkle and filmmaker Karan Johar tried to make the roast as interesting as possible by inflicting some intelligent insults on the fellow Bollywood colleagues. When quizzed about an honest opinion on if Dimple was a “good actress, Aamir took a deep breath and said “she was fantastic.” Not in a mood to allow diplomatic answers at the event, Twinkle quickly barged in, “I was a bad actress. Thankfully, I did not continue for long.”
The evening that was meant to reveal some embarrassing secrets about each other continued as Twinkle participated in the rapid fire questions by Karan Johar and gave suggestion to everyone from Narendra Modi to Rahul Gandhi to Ranbir Kapoor.
Twinkle’s ability to fearlessly speak her mind repositioned her as the hashtag queen and the darling of social media, in the past. The outspoken banter at the launch of the book has definitely confirmed that a section of Bollywood is open to jokes, as long it is not at their cost.
