Why Daniel Craig's 'Spectre' will take the 'James Bond' franchise to new heights
Here is a look at why ‘Spectre’ could go a long way in propelling the already iconic ‘James Bond’ series to even greater heights.

Daniel Craig starrer ‘Spectre’ finally hits screens in India today much to the delight of countless movie buffs throughout the nation. The 24th installment of the ‘James Bond’ franchise, this Sam Mendes-directed venture revolves around the rivalry between ‘agent 007’ and a criminal organization called Spectre. Touted as an action-thriller, it has already created a stir among fans and casual viewers alike thanks to its riveting promos as well as intriguing posters. Here is a look at why ‘Spectre’ could go a long way in propelling the already iconic ‘James Bond’ series to even greater heights.

Daniel Craig as 'agent 007': It was in 2006 that Craig kick started his association with the ‘James Bond’ series when ‘Casino Royale’ arrived in theatres amidst much fanfare. As luck would have it, the movie fared well at the ticket window and helped the actor establish himself as a worthy successor to Pierce Brosnan, who had essayed the character between 1995 and 2004.

Thereafter, Craig truly added his own touch to the character courtesy his suave body language, delivering mesmorising performances in ‘Quantum of Solace’ and ‘Skyfall’. Judging by the trailer, ‘Spectre’ will feature Bond in a slightly subdued and intense avatar. Moreover, it may also feature scenes which involve a bit of dry humour. If Craig is able to pull off these scenes effectively he may be able add a lot of depth to the iconic character. All of this could ultimately help him get an edge over the actors who have portrayed ‘agent 007’ over the years.

The Bausita factor: Another interesting aspect of ‘Spectre’ is that it features professional wrestler-turned-actor Dave Bautista in a key role. According to the information revealed so far, the 46-year-old will be seen essaying the role of a feared assassin. For the uninitiated, during his nearly seven-year-long stint with a reputed professional wrestling organization ‘The Animal’ created a stir amongst fans thanks to his chiseled physique and established himself as a recognizable face.

Given professional wrestling’s popularity in India, Batista’s presence in ‘Spectre’ will add a new lease of life to its commercial prospects. Moreover, in 2012 he established himself a legitimate “though guy” when he defeated veteran fighter Vince Lucero in a MMA fight. As such, Batista will be able to impart a lot of credibility to the fight scenes in the film, adding to its realism.

An original storyline: ‘Spectre’, unlike some of the previous films of the franchise, features an original story. Its narrative is not based on Ian Fleming’s novels. As such, one can expect the movie to have a certain amount of freshness about it. This in turn could provide the writers with an excellent chance to put their own spin on the character, heralding the start the start of a new era for the series.

Interestingly, even old school fans of the franchise may have plenty to cheer for in ‘Spectre’. The film is expected to contain numerous references to Fleming’s original work. For example, the character Franz Oberhauser shares his surname with a character that featured in the story ‘Octopussy'.

A new "Bond girl": Just like previous installments of the series, ‘Spectre’ too is likely to boast of some riveting scenes featuring Craig and his onscreen “Bond girl”. This time around the role is being essayed by none other than established actress Monica Bellucci. At 50, she is the oldest star to play the “Bond girl”. Given her experience and maturity as a performer, she can bring a lot to the table. Moreover, it will be worth watching whether she is able to strike up a crackling rapport with Craig. If Bellucci succeeds, their chemistry could turn out to be a major talking point of ‘Spectre’.
