Television actress Aswathy Babu has been caught by the police for the possession of illegal drugs in her apartment at Thrikkakkara in Kochi, Kerala. The actress recently rented a flat in the area.
The drug in possession is called MDMA (Methylenedioxymethamphetamine) and is also known as ecstasy. The psychoactive drug induces altered sensations and pleasure producing effects lasting from three to six hours.
The police were acting on a tip-off before catching Aswathy red handed. The consignment is suspected to have come all the way from Bengaluru to be disbursed in Kochi for drug parties. The actor was under the radar for a while before getting nabbed.
Aswathy, a native of Thiruvananthapuram, has appeared in supporting roles in television and cinema. According to Thrikkakkara police, she acted in Malayalam movies such as Velipadinte Pusthakam and Suvarnapurushan, which is yet to be released. She is also said to have actively involved in modelling. Her social media profiles disappeared immediately after the incident.
This is the second crime in Kerala in recent times involving a celebrity. A day before Aswathy was booked for drug trafficking, two unidentified men opened fire at a beauty parlour owned by another TV actress in the busy Panampilly Nagar area of Kochi. It’s owned by Leena Paul whose name had earlier cropped up in a multi-crore financial fraud.
There were reports suggesting that Leena named underworld kingpin Ravi Poojari as the mastermind behind the attack. She alleged threats by Poojari.
Leena had acted in Mohanlal movie Red Chillies and John Abraham film Madras Café.
