When Upendra Rejected An Offer To Direct A Movie Starring Chiranjeevi

Kannada star Upendra is celebrating his 56th birthday today, September 18. In an illustrious career spanning many years, he has acted in many hit films like Super, Uppi 2, etc. There is an interesting fact associated with him and the Telugu cinema Megastar Chiranjeevi.

As per reports, Upendra had received an offer to direct a film starring Chiranjeevi. It was expected that the 56-year-old Kannada star would also agree to direct this film. He, however, rejected that offer. In one of the recent interviews, Upendra stated the reason behind it. He said that the project didn’t materialise due to Megastar’s stardom and brand image.

“I was a novice to the industry back then. I didn’t know if I could handle Megastar,” said the Uppi 2 actor. The 56-year-old Kannada star also stated that he had interesting ideas. However, he was not sure whether they would suit Chiranjeevi’s superstar status. Upendra opined that he was not destined to team up with Megastar.

Currently, Upendra is looking forward to his upcoming directorial project titled UI- The Movie which is expected to be released in October 2024. He has written and will also play the main lead in this project. The lead actor announced the release window for the film on Twitter, revealing that it will hit the cinema halls in October. However, the exact release date has not been mentioned on the poster. The announcement came with a phenomenal motion poster showcasing Upendra in a dramatic pose with a massive sword, set against an intriguing backdrop. The poster features unique graphics, comprising an unusual throne and a flame, hinting at the film’s epic elements.

Apart from Upendra, Reeshma Nanaiah will also play the female lead in this film. She is joined by a supporting cast including Murali Sharma, P Ravi Shankar, and Nidhi Subbaiah. The film boasts impressive crew credentials: Shiva Kumar, known for his work on KGF 1 & 2, is the art director. B Ajaneesh Loknath has scored the film’s music. Producers KP Sreekanth and G. Manoharan are joined by cinematographer HC Venugopal. UI- The Movie will clash with the AP Arjun’s Martin, starring Dhruva Sarja.
