Anil Kapoor is one of the most talented and versatile actors in Bollywood. His filmography includes many hit films like Pukar and Mr India. Anil has also played cameo roles at the initial stage of his career in many films, including the 1982 release Shakti. Anil played the role of Ravi A Kumar, Vijay A Kumar’s (played by Amitabh Bachchan) in this film, directed by Ramesh Sippy. Anil Kapoor talked about his role in an earlier episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati. He revealed that his scene was to be shown after the death of Amitabh’s character in the film. He, however, added that the audience immediately left the cinema hall after Amitabh’s character was shot dead in Shakti. Anil Kapoor said due to this, many people missed his scene. He humorously mimicked the audience’s reaction after the death of Amitabh’s character, “Arre ab kya film dekhni? Amit ji, jisko dekhne aaye the, voh toh guzar gaye (Why should we watch the film now? The man we came to watch, Amitabh Bachchan, is dead now)."
Besides Shakti, Anil and Amitabh have collaborated on other films as well like Armaan and Slumdog Millionaire.
Anil Kapoor recently played the role of Balbir Singh in the film Animal, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. Animal has emerged as an all-time blockbuster at the box office. Despite the commercial success, Animal’s makers have been accused of glorifying misogyny, sexual violence and other crimes against women. Ranbir Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, Triptii Dimri, and other actors also acted in this film. Animal is available on the OTT platform Netflix, after a successful theatrical run for eight weeks. Makers of the film are now busy with a sequel titled Animal Park.
Anil Kapoor also played the role of group captain Rakesh Jaisingh in Fighter directed by Siddharth Anand. Deepika Padukone, Hrithik Roshan, and others acted in Fighter. The film courted controversy for depicting a hyper-nationalistic storyline. Betterfly Films, Marflix and Marlix Pictures have produced Fighter. As per the reports, Netflix has acquired the OTT streaming rights of Fighter.
