As Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan turns 82 today, October 11, 2024, fans reflect on his legendary career and his personal life, especially his relationship with wife Jaya Bachchan. Married for over five decades, the couple continues to inspire fans with their love and strong bond. However, Big B once humorously admitted that Jaya is ‘stricter’ with him than with their kids.
During an episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 15 last year, Amitabh engaged in a light-hearted conversation with a contestant named Jaya Patel, a teacher by profession. She revealed that she was strict in her professional life but gentle at home. Curious, she asked Amitabh how he felt about the name Jaya, alluding to his wife. With his usual wit, Amitabh playfully responded, “Well, my experience… (pauses)” before revealing that Jaya, too, has both strict and lenient sides.
Amitabh shared, “When she’s strict, it’s better to stay in, locked in your room, or just go out for a while. When she’s lenient, everything is great. But yes, she’s stricter with me. Why did you ask me this? When I watch this episode with her, she’ll scold me. It scares me, so I avoid talking about my personal life.”
In a separate instance on her granddaughter Navya Nanda’s podcast, What The Hell Navya, Jaya opened up about Amitabh’s conditions before their marriage. She recalled that they had planned to marry in October after her work commitments reduced. Amitabh had made it clear that he didn’t want a wife with a 9-to-5 job, suggesting that Jaya should choose her projects carefully and work with the right people.
Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya got married in an intimate ceremony on June 3, 1973. They are parents to Shweta Bachchan Nanda and Abhishek Bachchan, born in 1974 and 1976, respectively.
As for his career, the megastar is currently hosting Kaun Banega Crorepati 16. His film ‘Vettaiyan’ with Rajinikanth also hit theatres on the occasion of his birthday.
