Top Malayalam Actor Dileep's Remand Extended Till August 8
The Kerala High Court had recently denied the bail plea claiming there is possibility for Dileep to influence the witness.

The judicial remand period of actor Dileep, who is accused in Kerala actress’ abduction and assault case, has been extended till August 8 by the Angamaly court.

Since the police cited security issues in getting Dileep in person to the court, he was present via a video conference. For the unversed, special public prosecutor A Sureshan had earlier stated that each of his public appearances had witnessed a huge gathering of people. It was precisely due to the growing threat to Dileep’s security that the proceedings were executed via video conferencing.

The Kerala High Court had recently denied the bail plea claiming there is possibility for Dileep to influence the witness.

While refusing to give him bail in the case of alleged abduction and molestation of the actress, the court also mentioned that the case is unique due to its seriousness, meticulous planning, cruel nature of execution and it being a crime executed to wreak vengeance on a woman by engaging criminals to sexually abuse her.

The popular actress was abducted and sexually assaulted in Ernakulam on February 17 while she was on her way back from a shooting location. A group of men who stopped her car after a chase, sexually assaulted her in the moving vehicle for a couple of hours. They also allegedly took pictures and videos and blackmailed her before dropping her off by the roadside.

Six people, including 'Pulsar' Suni, were arrested in the case and police were investigating their links with the Malayalam film industry.

Dileep, who has played several lead roles and was hailed for his comic timing, was at one time a distant third to the big two of Malayalam cinema, Mohanlal and Mammootty. He has acted in over 130 films, with some of the slapstick comedies like Meesa Madhavan and CID Moosa going on to become big hits.

The high-profile case had rocked Mollywood, with all actors, including from the Hindi film industry, questioning the safety of women in the state.
