The film tells the story of a blind piano player who accidentally gets embroiled in a murder case.

Bollywood has recently been facing a lot of backlash for not providing adequate content in their films and prioritising style over substance. Many recent Bollywood films have also been remakes of films from the South, further igniting debate over the lack of originality in Hindi cinema. This is why when occasionally films with unconventionally gripping storylines come up, they do exceptionally well at the box office. One such film was the 2018 release Andhadhun. The dark comedy crime thriller was directed by Sriram Raghavan and starred Tabu, Ayushmann Khurrana, Radhika Apte and Anil Dhawan in pivotal roles.

The film tells the story of a blind piano player, who unwittingly becomes embroiled in the murder of a retired rich actor. How the blind man, played by Ayushmann Khurrana is implicated for the crime and how he proves his innocence makes up most of the story. The story is full of unexpected twists and rich in nail biting content. The movie did amazing business at the box office. Made on a meagre budget of Rs 32 crore, Andhadhun grossed Rs 456 crore at the box office, emerging as a blockbuster. It received widespread critical acclaim and Ayushmann Khurrana received a National Award for his performance in the film

The film also won four awards, including Best Director and Best Screenplay, at the Screen Awards ceremony and five Filmfare Awards, including Best Film (Critics) and Best Actor (Critics) for Ayushmann. The success of Andhadhun led it to be remade in several languages, as Maestro in Telugu and Bhramam in Malayalam. A Tamil remake titled Andhagan is scheduled to release this year. It stars Prashanth and Simran. Priya Anand will be portraying the role originally played by Radhika Apte in Andhadhun. The film is directed by Thiagarajan, Prashanth’s father, and produced by Staar Movies.
