The rescue cable also broke down and got submerged in the water. The film speaks about various incidents that the crew faced while carrying out the operation. With such an interesting storyline, the film has been rated 7.5 by IMDB.
The Abyss was first premiered in theatres on August 9, 1989. Soon after its release the film was highly praised by the audience and recorded a box office collection of around $90 million ( approximately Rs 750 crore). The film has received four Academy Award nominations and clinched the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. The film is presently streaming on the OTT platform Amazon Prime Video.
