Veteran Bollywood star Dharmendra is regarded as an iconic figure in the film industry. Known for his distinct dialogue delivery and good looks, Dharmendra became one of the most celebrated actors in India. From 1968 to 1970, the actor gave three hits, interestingly, he wore one clothing item which proved to be a lucky charm for him.
Appearing in evergreen superhits like Sholay, Dharam Veer, Sita Aur Geeta, Dharmendra established himself as the top actor in the Indian film industry during the 60s and the 70s. In the years, 1968 to 1970, the actor appeared in three superhits, which shared something common with the actor- a yellow shirt.
In these three films, the actor was seen in a striped yellow shirt, which proved to be a lucky charm for him. In 1968, he was featured in the film Mere Humdum Mere Dost, where he was seen opposite Sharmila Tagore. He appeared in the song Chalo Sajna Jhahan Tak, wearing the yellow shirt, opposite the actress. Then, he was seen in the same shirt in the 1969 film Aya Sawan Jhoom Ke’s song, Saathiya Nahin Jaana. He was seen with Asha Parekh in the film.
In 1970, he did Jeevan Mrityu, again appearing in the same shirt for the song Jhilmil Sitaron Ka Aangan Hoga. He starred with actress Rakhee Gulzar in the film. Amazingly, all three releases proved to be superhits at the box office, making the shirt a lucky charm for the actor.
Some of Dharmendra’s last releases include the films Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani and Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya. In the former, the actor appeared in the role of Rocky’s (played by Ranveer Singh) grandfather. Directed by Karan Johar, the cast of the film included Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in the lead roles, along with Jaya Bachchan, Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi.
In Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya Dharmendra appeared as Aryan’s (played by Shahid Kapoor) grandfather. It was directed by Amit Joshi and Aradhana Sah and starred Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon.
