Advocate Satish Maneshinde responded to the chargesheet filed by NCB in the Sushant Singh Rajput case. Maneshinde wrote “The 12000 page charge was expected. All efforts of NCB have been directed towards Rhea Chakraborty to some how rope her in. The entire amount of ‘Narcotic Substances’ recovered ‘against 33 Accused’ are nothing compared to what even a constable in Mumbai Police or Narcotics cell or the airport customs or other agencies recover from one raid or trap.”
Maneshinde, who was critical about the manner in which NCB targeted both Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik, also took a jibe at NCB’s probe that engulfed Bollywood with celebrities like Deepika Padukone, Sara Ali Khan, Shraddha Kapoor and Arjun Rampal being questioned. “The entire NCB from top to bottom was engaged in unearthing drug angle in Bollywood… There’s hardly any material against any known faces who were paraded during the investigations, I wonder why? Either the allegations were false or Only God Knows the Truth. The charge sheet is a damp squib standing on the the foundation of Inadmissible Evidence and Statements recorded under section 67 of the NDPS Act even after the Supreme Court Judgement in Toofan Singh Judgement…” said Rhea’s lawyer.
Rhea was arrested by the NCB in connection to the drugs case in September, 2020, and after a month of questioning, she was let out on bail in October. The Enforcement Directorate during its investigation against Rhea Chakraborty and family in the alleged money laundering case stumbled upon drug chats from Rhea’s mobile which was passed on to the NCB for investigation.
Now with the chargesheet in the case filed by NCB projecting Rhea as the prime accused, Maneshinde is confident that based on the conditions Rhea was granted bail by Hon. Bombay High Court, the case against his client filed by Narcotics Control Bureau will not hold. “Without Rhea Chakraborty being charged this case has no substance… The HC has found no prima facie material at the stage of Bail of alleged ‘Financing” drugs trade. We will have the last laugh,” he said.
