There have been times when the stars went too far in their intentional or unintentional publicity stunts not realizing the difference between achieving publicity and being silly. In this world of everyday controversial stunts, we bring you the list of silly gimmicks that celebrities have done to create headlines.
1. KRK
Failing in his desperate attempts to be the ‘superstar actor’, he resorted to becoming the king of controversies. Every now and then, he keeps targets different celebrities and calling them “2rps ppl” for all the ‘silly’ reasons. In the most recent gimmick, he directed his attention towards Kapil Sharma, the host of ‘Comedy Nights With Kapil’. Making fun of his film debut, he said Nargis Fakhri turned down the film as Kapil was the lead. Later, he tweeted, “Ppl pls don’t mind his tweet coz he always become tiger after drinking. Nasha Utarne Ke Baad Fir Chuhha Ban Jaata Hai” as a response to Kapil’s open invitation of dealing with a Punjabi guy.
2. Mallika Sherawat
She entered Bollywood with the dream of becoming an actress. What happened to those dreams, only she knows. If not for her films, she has been in the news for her versatile actions every now and then. In the most recent attempt to gain attention, she directly targeted PM Modi on his 64th birthday referring to him as the most eligible bachelor in India. Singing ‘Happy Birthday Narendra jii.. Happy Birthday Narendra Modi jii’ in a ‘not-so-politically-correct’ sensuous way, she indeed became successful in making the headline!
3. Pooja Missra
The ‘Bigg Boss 5’ contestant Pooja Missra took people by ‘laughter’ with her allegations on Sonakshi Sinha and other B-town personalities for every wrong thing that has happened in her life and alleging her family of performing black magic on her. Apart from her usual stunts- which were seen during her ‘Bigg Boss’ stint, she claimed that she was raped in an Udaipur Hotel in a drugged and unconscious state. Whether it’s true or not, remains to be revealed.
4. Veena Malik
A publicity stunt or simply an act of kindness is something that still needs to be figured out. Looking at her past records, it is deeply saddening to say that this act of kindness may be one of the acts to gain attention. In the recent buzz, Veena and her husband Asad Bashir Khan Khattak were one of the first few people who raised their voices for Geeta, the Indian girl in Pakistan. They even went on board with Sallu Bhai to discuss this.
5. Gauahar Khan
‘Bigg Boss’ winner Gauahar Khan, who have had the most loved love story on a reality TV show, recently buzzed the media with her slapgate incident wherein she was slapped by a random guy for wearing short clothes. The accused Mohammad Akil Malik allegedly told a TV channel that the incident was staged and the actor had paid him for the publicity stunt. Whether it was real or staged, we cannot rule out the fact that it bestowed Gauahar with a huge amount of publicity
6. Poonam Pandey
Talking about silly gimmicks, how can we forget the evergreen controversy queen Poonam Pandey. The thirst of publicity led her to use the IPL for her benefits. With all guts, she announced that she would strip if Shah Rukh Khan owned Kolkata Knight Riders won the IPL series. And she did stick to her words, only partially though.
7. Twinkle Khanna-Akshay Kumar
In Lakme Fashion Week 2009, Akshay Kumar walked the ramp to promote the brand Levis. The action of Twinkle Khanna unbuttoning his jeans while he was on stage is something that not only made headlines but left people dazzled at what happened at the event.
8. Fukrey Promotion
The most unforgettable promotional event was the one where ‘Fukrey’ stars decided to promote their film by reaching the venue on horses. Often actors work to go an extra mile for the promotion of their films but this one is just hilarious. Not only because the actors took to horses but the actor producer Farhan Akhtar and co-producer Ritesh Sidhwani carried out the promotional event on their bicycles.
9. Rakhi Sawant
An actress, a reality TV show contestant, a failed politician and a girl who did a television ‘swyamvar’ has enough reasons to be in the news forever. In her most latest edition, she resorted to support Radhe Maa by describing her aura as different than those of others. She also said that Radhe Maa gives her strength. (Radhe Maa swirl also bagged support from Dolly Bindra who did make it to the news if not the headline)
10. Sonam Kapoor
Evidently, Sonam Kapoor has made headlines quite a few times for her digs at co-stars and colleagues. The latest tiff in which she was embroiled was the comment she made on Aishwarya Rai, which had shocked many. Referring Aishwarya as “an aunt from another generation”, she invited a lot of attention from the star’s fans.
11. Kiss Kiss Ki Kahaani
Mika Singh kissing Rakhi Sawant, Siddharth Mallya kissing Deepika Padukone, Richard Gere kissing Shilpa Shetty. Every now and then, the kissing stories have made to top the list of controversies. An act of showing love and emotions is often used to gain attention in the B-town.
