Highlight, the South Korean boy band formerly known as Beast, is poised for a triumphant return to the music scene with the announcement of a new album set to release in March, commemorating their 15th debut anniversary. Their agency, Around US Entertainment, has officially confirmed the news and expressed eagerness, sharing, “Highlight is gearing up for a new album with the goal of making a comeback this spring. Please show lots of anticipation and interest in Highlight’s new music and performances,” as reported by News1.
This anticipated comeback will be Highlight’s first reunion as a full group in over a year. The group had reportedly not been together following the release of their fourth mini-album, After Sunset, in November 2022. Prior to that, in October of the same year, they had treated their fans to the special fan song Give You My All. Moreover, they had also successfully concluded their fan con in November.
Highlight, initially a six-member group, saw changes in its lineup when Jang Hyun-seung departed in April 2016, followed by Yong Jun-hyung in March 2019. The group then transitioned from Cube Entertainment to Around Us Entertainment in late 2016, with a change in their name to Highlight in 2017.
The band’s journey began in 2009 with the EP (extended play) Beast Is the B2ST, followed by their first full-length album, Fiction and Fact, in 2011. They also made their Japanese debut with the single Shock in the same year.
Under the name Beast, the group released three Korean full-length albums, nine extended plays, two Japanese full-length albums, and numerous singles. The re-debut as Highlight happened in 2017 with the EP Can You Feel It?, and since then, they have released three more EPs.
After a two-and-a-half-year hiatus, Highlight made a triumphant return on May 3, 2021, with their third EP, The Blowing. On March 21, 2022, they released their fourth studio album, Daydream, followed by the announcement of a three-day concert, INTRO, at Jamsil Indoor Gymnasium from March 20–22. This concert marked their first live performance as a group in over three years, a significant event considering the challenges posed by the COVID-19 outbreak and their members’ military enlistment.
Highlight had initially faced scepticism in the industry, often referred to as a recycled group due to members’ previous lack of success. However, they overcame this perception, achieving substantial commercial success and garnering critical acclaim. The group now stands as one of the most awarded bands in the history of the Golden Disc Awards, Seoul Music Awards, and Melon Music Awards.
Each of the group’s current members, namely, Yoon Doo-joon, Yang Yo-seob, Lee Gi-kwang, and Son Dong-woon have also been actively pursuing their solo careers.
