Kesha Reveals Her First Breakup Had A Taylor Swift Connection

American singer-songwriter Kesha has shared a personal anecdote from her life. The Joyride singer has opened up about how she got dumped for the first time by her former partner. She also revealed that the story had a connection with pop icon Taylor Swift. Without disclosing the name of her ex, Kesha claimed that she had the inkling that her then-boyfriend was in the relationship “for the wrong reasons”. Her suspicions were confirmed when the 37-year-old went to a party organised by Taylor Swift. Kesha attended the bash with one of her friends instead of her ex and that’s when the award-winning singer realised that she was right all along.

“I had a feeling that he was in it for the wrong reasons and was a bit of a starf—er. I decided to test that theory and took one of my friends instead of him to Taylor Swift’s party. He came over the next day and broke up with me,” said Kesha in an interaction with Elle magazine. On March 16, she shared her break-up story on X (formerly Twitter). “I got dumped because I didn’t take a guy to the Taylor Swift afterparty,” she wrote. In the comments section, Kesha revealed that she was in a relationship with her ex for “a year and a half”.

During the conversation with Elle, Kesha shared that she was only going to date someone new if they treat her “as well as” she treats herself. “I kept hearing people say, ‘I’m looking for The One.’ I kept waiting for somebody else to fill that space, and then I just stepped into it myself. You gotta be all those things to yourself—your own boyfriend, sugar daddy, rich husband, best friend, cheerleader,” she said. The Boy Like You singer emphasised the importance of loving oneself claiming that she pampers herself by going on solo vacations” and “bougie dates”, embarking on “shopping sprees at Saint Laurent” and buying herself “six dozen roses”. Kesha called the experience as “celebrating” herself.

According to a report by Entertainment Weekly, Kesha sparked dating rumours with health-tech entrepreneur Michael Gilvary this year in July. She was previously linked to film producer Riccardo Maddalosso last year.
