Kerala High Court Directs Censor Board To Decide On Thankamani Title Change

Malayalam actor Dileep’s upcoming film Thankamani has been embroiled in controversies since its trailer launch. According to reports, a petition was filed to change the film’s title in the Kerala High Court, and they have tasked the censor board to handle the matter.

Earlier, the Dileep starrer Thankamani was dragged to court by a local who claimed that the teaser showed fabricated scenes. Now, as per new updates, another petition has been filed in the Kerala High Court, which seeks to change the title of the film. In that regard, the High Court has asked the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to take the final decision on the case. The court stated that the censor board has all the authority to make the appropriate decision after watching the film.

V R Viju, a resident of the Thankamani village, in the Idukki District, Kerala, went to the High Court, alleging the teaser showcased fabricated scenes. The film is inspired by true incidents. According to the plea, the teaser showed incidents of rape that have no official documentation or any other records and were mostly fabricated.

Thankamani is being made under the direction of Ratheesh Reghunandan, and starring Dileep in the lead role. The cast of the film also includes names like Neeta Pillai, Pranitha Subhash, Sudev Nair, Ajmal Ameer, Shine Tom Chacko, Siddique, Malavika Menon, Manoj K Jayan, Major Ravi and many others. It is being produced by RB Choudary and Raaffi Mathirra, under the banner of Super Good Films. The music in the film is composed by William Francis, Manoj Pillai is the cinematographer, and the editing is done by Shyam Sasidharan. The official teaser of the film was released on December 1, 2023, on the YouTube channel of Saina Music. An official release date for the film is yet to be announced by the makers.

The lead of Thankamani Dileep was last seen in the film Bandra, which was released in 2023.
