Debuting with the 1991 film Prem Qaidi, she carved out a stellar career that modern actresses dream of. Her entry into the film industry was particularly groundbreaking, as she was the first woman from the Kapoor family to enter showbiz at a time when Kapoors traditionally shunned the silver screen for their daughters. Recently, in an interview with The Week, Kareena Kapoor Khan highlighted how her sister Karisma paved the way for their family during challenging times, solidifying her position as a pioneering figure.
In a recent interview, The Crew actress shared some insights into her sister’s early struggles. She revealed that during those years, their mother Babita Kapoor and aunt Neetu Kapoor had stopped working, and it was Karisma Kapoor who stepped up to bring about a significant change. Kareena Kapoor Khan mentioned that her sister “resurrected a home”. She stated, “My grandfather had passed away, my father had made one film, Henna. Of course, Chintu uncle was this illustrious superstar actor but apart from that, no one was working at that time. So Karisma was actually the first female Kapoor who became this big sensation and star.”
The 2000 debutant reflected on her sister Karisma’s pivotal journey, noting that Karisma’s initial efforts paved the way for her own success. By the time she made her debut, the anticipation for Karisma’s sister was palpable. For the unversed, there was a period when Kapoor family women did not participate in showbiz, and those who married into the family ceased working in the industry.
In the same interview, Kareena revealed that the family had become more accepting over time, notably supported by their mother. However, their father, Randhir Kapoor, maintained a different stance, encouraging Karisma to find her own path. “I am not going to help you in any which way,” he declared, as recounted by Kareena.
