Kannada actor Varun Aradya has been accused of blackmailing and threatening his former girlfriend, social media influencer Varsha Kaveri. As reported by Free Press Journal, an FIR against the actor has been filed after the former girlfriend lodged a complaint against him on September 7, 2024, at the Basaveshwarnagar Police Station.
Reportedly, in her complaint, Varsha claimed that Varun had been blackmailing her ever since she caught him cheating on her. The two reportedly started to date each other in 2019 but in 2023, Varsha found photos of Varun in compromising positions with another woman. When she confronted him, he threatened to leak her private photos and videos on the internet.
Varsha has alleged that these videos were recorded by Varun without her consent. In her complaint, she also claimed that on September 10, 2023, Varun sent an obscene picture of her on her personal number. However, when she questioned him, he not only made distasteful remarks but also threatened to kill her.
Police officials are now investigating the case. It should be noted that Varun has not issued any official statement on the complaint as of now.
The complaint comes at a time when the MeToo movement in the Malayalam film industry has jolted the nation. It all started after the findings of the Justice Hema Committee Report were made public. As of now, FIRs have been registered against several film personalities including Mukesh, Siddique, Jayasurya, Edavela Babu, Maniyan Pillai Raju, directors Ranjith, V. K. Prakash, production executives Vichu and Noble after women actresses registered complaints.
Previously, Tamil actress Radikaa Sarathkumar also alleged that she was once working on a project in Kerala when she learnt that there were hidden cameras in vanity vans. Sarathkumar claimed that crew members secretly record women changing clothes in their vanity vans and have a database for the same.
