After the release of the 2018 action-fantasy Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Marvel fans were bowled over by the animated character Miles Morales. The second installment of the franchise titled Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse also whipped up a positive response. With the third film of the series, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse heading towards a release on a yet-to-be-confirmed date, fans are eagerly anticipating a live-action movie centering around the young Spiderman aka Miles Morales. Now, Spiderman producer Amy Pascal has hinted at the character’s arrival but not anytime soon. Her stance was supported by scriptwriter Chris Miller in another cryptic social media post.
At the Oscars’ Luncheon 2024 on February 12, when Amy Pascal was asked about an update on Miles Morales’ live-action film, she revealed that it might happen “someday”. “Not until we make two more movies. We’re very happy doing the animated Spider-Verse movies,” she said. Although Pascal did not give away any concrete details, her mysterious statement excited Marvel fans nevertheless. Furthermore, adding fuel to the fire came Chris Miller. Sharing a clip of Pascal’s Variety interview on X (formerly Twitter) he wrote, “To clarify when she said ‘not until we make two more movies,’ she meant Beyond the Spider-Verse and the live-action Tom Holland film.”

The “two movies” that Amy Pascal and Chris Miller talked about include the upcoming Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse and Spiderman 4. Beyond the Spider-Verse is directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K Thompson. It is produced under the banners of Sony Pictures. Meanwhile, Spiderman 4, starring Tom Holland is in the making sharing the same fate as Beyond the Spider-Verse. Spiderman 4’s premiere date remains unconfirmed.
Judging by Amy Pascal’s words and Chris Miller’s message, it seems that a Miles Morales live-action Marvel film will only be made after the future of Beyond the Spider-Verse and Spiderman 4 are ascertained.
It’s unclear which Marvel franchise Miles Morales’ character will truly feature in when Sony brings him to life in a live-action film. However, since Morales has his personal set of dedicated audiences and enjoys much popularity, chances are that if and when the movie is made, it will take place in its own universe.
