Nayanthara’s smashing debut opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Jawan was much-loved by fans and critics alike. The actress also earned accolades for her portrayal of a senior cop in the film. In a recent interaction with a media portal, the actress opened up on the reason behind choosing Jawan for her Bollywood debut. She also heaped praises on Shah Rukh Khan and said that he respects women a lot.
Nayanthara, in a conversation with Hello Magazine, was quizzed about what made her choose the Shah Rukh Khan starrer for her debut in Bollywood. The actress responded, “I was looking for a film like Jawan which is a commercial venture with a huge star. At the same time, I was also keen on a meaty role where I get to kick some ass.”
Adding that Shah Rukh Khan was the biggest reason for her to do Jawan, Nayanthara said, “Who is not his fan? We have all grown up watching his films and we all love them. Apart from being the huge star that he is, I really admire the fact that he respects women a lot.” Further, she mentioned, “I was pretty sure that Jawan would create a huge impact. After working so many years in the industry you know when a film is going to work and vice versa.”
Jawan, headlined by Shah Rukh Khan, was directed by Atlee. The film, besides Shah Rukh and Nayanthara, also starred Sanya Malhotra, Priyamani, Riddhi Dogra, Deepika Padukone, Sunil Grover, and others in primary roles. A monstrous success at the box office, the action thriller collected Rs 1160 crore at the box office, claiming the title of one of the highest-grossing Indian films ever.
Next, Nayanthara is all set to appear in Mannangatti: Since 1960. The film has been written and directed by Dude Vicky. Among her other projects is The Test which also stars Siddharth, Trisha Krishnan, and R Madhavan in pivotal roles. Producer Sashikanth will be making his directorial debut through the film which is expected to be released in theatres later this year.
