February 1 marks the 67th birthday of one of the renowned actors in Bollywood. We are talking about Jackie Shroff. Born Jaikishan Kakubhai Shroff, he is one of the prominent actors in Indian cinema at this time. Jackie, however, had to face a lot of setbacks on the personal front before he achieved stardom. He recounted his struggles recently in an interview with a media portal. Jackie recounted pasting posters or selling peanuts to the people who gathered at Republic Day and Independence Day functions at bus stands. He also used to sell them chana and remembered buying jalebis with the money earned. “On occasions, we would give ourselves a Sunday treat at Chandu Halwai, the mithai shop close by”, he recounted.
Before achieving fame, Jackie lived in a Teen Batti Chawl near Grant Road in South Mumbai. As of now, he owns a luxurious 8-BHK apartment and also purchased some farmhouses in Lonavala and Maval. Jackie owns a swanky Bentley Continental GT which comes with a price tag between Rs 3.29 crore and Rs 4.04 crore. He also owns a BMW M5 worth Rs 1.74 crore. According to a report published in the Celebrity Net Worth, Jackie’s total net worth is Rs 212.76 crore.
Jackie started his acting career in a supporting role with the film Swami Dada directed by Dev Anand and TK Desai. He played the role of Jaggu (Shakti Kapoor)’s accomplice. Jackie, however, catapulted to fame with his role as a male lead in the film Hero directed by Subhash Ghai. Subhash interacted with ANI regarding what prompted him to rope him as an actor in Hero. Subhash said that he liked Jackie’s honesty and the intensity on his face as well. In a separate interview, the director also revealed roping Jackie due to his unkempt bearded look as well. Hero is currently streaming on Amazon Prime and Zee 5. Sanjeev Kumar, Late Shammi Kapoor, Meenakshi Sheshadri, and others acted in this film.
