Fardeen Khan Reveals Bhansali Refused To Work With Him In Early 2000s, Said 'Don't See Fire In Your Eyes'
Fardeen Khan recalls visiting Sanjay Leela Bhansali's office to request him for work.

Fourteen years after Dulha Mil Gaya, Fardeen Khan is all set to make his comeback with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s historical drama, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazar. In a recent chat, the actor recalled the time he went to Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s office to ask him for work but got rejected because the director didn’t see “the fire in his eyes”.

Fardeen told Pinkvilla, “You know I am going to narrate a story that I reminded Sanjay sir when I went to meet him for Wali Mohammed. I had gone to his office in the early 2000s to seek work, Obviously to get the opportunity to work with him. He met with me, we sat, we spoke for about 10-15 minutes. He said, ‘You know Fardeen I don’t think we can work because I don’t see that fire in your eyes.'”

The actor continued, “At that time of course it felt brutal and I told him this time that even if that sounded brutal at the time, that’s exactly what I wanted to hear, I needed to hear rather. I thanked him for it. He never told me about wanting to cast me in Black. I am hearing it for the first time. But just to have this chance to be able to work with a master craftsman like him, I am extremely grateful for it. It’s been a wonderful learning experience. It has enriched me on many levels.”

Recently, Fardeen also spoke to News18 Showsha and revealed how he finally bagged a Sanjay Leela Bhansali project. Fardeen revealed how he serendipitously caught the attention of the casting director of the series while attending an event. “I was spotted at an award function by Shruti Mahajan, who has closely worked with Mr Bhansali over the years. I don’t know whether she was there or she saw me on television, but she thought that I would suit the character of Wali,” he recalls. “She called me when I got back from Abu Dhabi. She told me that she would want me to meet Mr Bhansali and his team. And since I was away from the movies for so long, they just wanted to see if I really suited the part,” said Fardeen.

Fardeen will be seen as Wali Mohammed, a charming nawab besotted with a nautch girl. He will be seen romancing Sonakshi Sinha in the drama series. Heeramandi will be available to stream on Netflix from May 1 onwards.
