Emraan Hashmi stirred up controversy during a quick-paced segment on Karan Johar’s talk show Koffee with Karan by referring to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as “plastic.” This remark, made back in 2014, generated significant attention and criticism. Emraan has addressed the backlash and repercussions he encountered as a result of his statement. In a recent conversation with The Lallantop, Emraan revisited the controversial comment he made.

During the interview, Emraan was questioned about his feelings regarding labeling Aishwarya as “plastic,” to which he responded, “I regret it. I keep saying that I have utmost respect for everyone I spoke about. I regret it because it was distasteful. Lately, people have become very sensitive. People get mad at everything on social media. In terms of the show, we were playing a game, it was all in jest. It was supposed to be taken sportingly. There are many such games in the show. Earlier, people weren’t this sensitive. I would love to apologise if she felt offended.”

During the fast-paced segment on Koffee with Karan season four, Emraan spontaneously associated the word “plastic” with Aishwarya Rai when prompted to name an actor. Although Aishwarya never directly addressed his comment, she disclosed in a 2019 Filmfare interview that the harshest criticism against her was being called “fake and plastic.”

In a separate conversation with Hindustan Times, Emraan recounted the aftermath of his response during the rapid-fire round. He shared that Karan hesitated, considering the appropriateness of including Emraan’s answer. The atmosphere on set grew tense, with crew members unsure of whether to retain his statement.

Following Emraan’s previous comment, rumors emerged two years later suggesting that Aishwarya declined a movie offer alongside Emraan. Reports indicated that Aishwarya was approached for a Milan Luthria film but turned it down upon learning about potential scenes with Emraan. Responding to the speculation, Emraan dismissed the hearsay, mentioning that he is aware of the rumors but doubts their accuracy. He believes that the situation was blown out of proportion by individuals seeking to sensationalize the matter.
