In a career spanning more than three decades, Kajol will be seen playing a cop for the first time in Netflix’s upcoming film, Do Patti, co-starring Kriti Sanon. Unlike Kajol, her husband Ajay Devgn has donned a cop’s uniform many times with Singham being his most popular portrayal of a larger-than-life policeman. Interestingly, Singham Again on November 1, a week after Do Patti. The Rohit Shetty directorial has grabbed the attention of numerous fans as it’s the latest addition to his cop universe and will see Singham, Simmba, and Sooryavanshi share screen space.
At the trailer launch of Do Patti in Mumbai earlier today, Kajol while addressing the media said that she didn’t take any tips from her husband for playing a cop. She was also asked if she would want to have a spin-off of her policewoman character from Do Patti and have her own universe. Kajol confessed, “I’ve no clue if there can be a cop universe featuring a character. I’ve to ask Kanika (Dhillon; writer and co-producer of Do Patti) that question. But I love the idea of playing a cop.”
She added that she thoroughly enjoyed playing one and that she intends to get to play more such characters. “When you wear a uniform onscreen, there’s a certain stature and kadakness that comes in your posture even though you know that you’re actor giving a shot and that the uniform isn’t actually yours. I loved playing a cop and I would love playing it again,” Kajol said.
While she revealed that she didn’t have any conversation with Ajay on the matter, she was filled with a sense of ‘josh’ when she slipped under the uniform. “Whenever you wear an outfit for a shoot, be it a saree, a salwar kameez or a pantsuit, you always feel that you’re wearing a uniform. But when I wore an actual uniform and went to the set of Do Patti, I felt something. I haven’t asked Ajay Devgn yet as to what he feels like. Wearing a uniform gives you authority and you feel a certain sense of respect for yourself and for those in uniform,” she stated.
Ajay might be Singham onscreen, but who calls the shots at home? “Maine pehle bhi kahaan hai aur har stage pe kahaan hai ki asli Singham main hoon,” said Kajol with a laugh.
For the unversed, Do Patti is set in the fictional hilly town of Devipur, where police inspector Vidya Jyothi finds herself drawn to a series of unsettling events involving Saumya and her husband, Dhruv Sood. When Saumya’s twin sister, Shailee, suddenly arrives at the hill station, her intrigue deepens, leaving Vidya to question whether anything is truly as it seems within this web of half-truths and half-lies. The film also stars Shaheer Sheikh and Tanvi Azmi.
