Chiyaan Vikram credited his mother for being his strong support in his childhood and then credited his wife for making him who he is today.

It is difficult to imagine Tamil cinema without the immense contributions of Chiyaan Vikram. Recently, he grabbed everyone’s attention with the blockbuster film, Thangalaan. He has been married to Shailaja Balakrishnan for more than 30 years and now, a throwback video of him stating that his wife did not support his acting career has surfaced on the internet.

Chiyaan Vikram once opened up about his marriage, his first meeting with his wife and her support in his life. In an interview with YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, he mentioned that he was on crutches when he first met his wife. He credited his mother for being his strong support in his childhood and then credited his wife for making him who he is today.

The Saamy actor opened up that his wife did not want him to pursue acting and was not supportive of it. She wanted him to quit the cinema. He revealed that her family had poets and scholars and she was trying to change him. But he stood his ground and said, “No, listen, let’s get this straight; that (acting) is my first love and you are the second. At times she used to say, I hope your films don’t work. Now she is obsessed." He further discussed how he and his wife worked out their differences. He said, “You don’t think of it as a habit, but you become so used to the other person that you can’t be without them."

Chiyaan Vikram and his wife Shailaja met in the late 1980s and tied the knot in 1992 at a Guruvayoor Temple. The couple have two kids- one daughter, Akshita, and a son named Dhruv.

Chiyaan Vikram started off his career with the film En Kadhal Kanmani in 1990. His few notable works are Sethu, Kasi, Saamy, Pithamagan, Anniyan, Raavanan, Deiva Thirumagal, Thaandavam and Iru Mugan to name a few. After Thangalaan, he has two more projects in the pipeline- Dhruva Natchathiram: Chapter One – Yuddha Kaandam and Veera Dheera Sooran: Part 2.
