Minting Rs 100 crore for a Telugu film was a huge feat a few years back. But the release of SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus RRR changed the narrative. In fact, Telugu films are being made on a huge budget and are giving quite a competition to Bollywood as well. Even before the film hits the theatre, the makers earn money from the pre-release business. Here are some of the Telugu films that have made the highest pre-release business so far.
2.0
Directed by S Shankar, 2.0 stars superstar Rajinikanth, Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson. The film set an all-time record for its pre-release business, which was valued at about Rs 560 crore. It was made on a budget of about Rs 400-600 crore and earned more than Rs 723 crore worldwide.
Baahubali 2
The magnum opus, delivered by SS Rajamouli, Baahubali 2 starred Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Tamannaah Bhatia and Ramya Krishnan. The film’s pre-release as reported by NDTV was more than Rs 500 crore. The film was made on a budget of Rs 250 crore and minted somewhere between Rs 1,737.68 to Rs 1,810.60 crore.
RRR
SS Rajamouli’s RRR starred Ram Charan, Jr NTR, Shriya Saran, Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt. As per reports, the film did a pre-release business of approximately Rs 492 crore. A few reports claim the numbers to be Rs 470 crore. The film was made on a budget of Rs 550 crore and grossed over Rs 1,387 crore at the worldwide box office.
Kalki 2898 AD
The upcoming film, Kalki 2898 AD has already created a huge buzz with its interesting posters and thrilling trailers. The multi-starrer film features, Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Disha Patani and several others. It is directed by Nag Ashwin and its pre-release business has been valued at Rs 394 crore. The film has been made on a budget of Rs 600 crore.
Salaar
Another Prabhas-headlined film which set the cash register ringing was Salaar. The film was made on a budget of Rs 270 crore. Directed by Prashanth Neel, the film also starred Prithviraj Sukumaran, Shruti Haasan, Jagapathi Babu, Bobby Simha, Sriya Reddy, John Vijay, Tinnu Anand, and many others. As per reports, the film did a pre-release business of Rs 250 crore. At the box office, its worldwide collection is more than Rs 617 crore.
Saaho
Sujeeth’s Saaho, headlined by Prabhas and Shraddha Kapoor earned more than Rs 502 crore in its pre-release business. It has beaten Baahubali 2 to be the second-highest record after Rajinikanth’s 2.0. The film was made on a budget of Rs 350 crore and earned Rs 451 crore at the worldwide box office.
