Amitabh Bachchan is a legend for a reason. People who’ve worked with him have interesting stories to tell. He’s known for his discipline and for bringing every character he plays to life. One memorable character is Yash Raichand in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. Nikhil Advani, the Associate Director on the film, once shared that Bachchan stopped talking to his wife and kids for a scene.
During an interview with Rediff, Nikhil Advani mentioned a particular scene in the movie where Amit ji’s character kicks Shah Rukh Khan out of the house for marrying Kajol. He was supposed to say, “Aaj tumne sabit kar diya ki tum mere khoon nahin hi (Today, you proved that you are not my blood).” But to get into a ‘stern’ mode, Big B stopped talking to everyone in his house.
Nikhil Advani accidentally told him the shoot would last for 2 days, but it turned out it would take 3 days. He said, “When I apologised, Jayaji, who is like a mother to all the ADs, reprimanded me, saying I had no idea what I had done. ‘Since the last two days, he has not been speaking to me or the kids, just moping around and being rude to everybody,’ she confided. ‘Why?’ I asked, surprised. She explained that he had been getting into the ‘zone’. ‘But he has only one line to deliver!’ I exclaimed.”
Over years, fans have maintained that Karan Johar’s Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham isn’t just any movie; it’s an emotion. With an incredible cast including Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, and Kareena Kapoor Khan, it’s one of Bollywood’s most iconic films. What made it even more special is the reunion of Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan on screen after a 20 year gap since their last collaboration in the 1981 film, Silsila.
