Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif 'Emotional' After Namastey London Monologue, Director Recalls UK Crew's Shock
Director Vipul Shah said that the British crew was shocked to learn about India's achievements.

Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif’s Namastey London is one of the most remembered films of both their careers. The scene where Akshay Kumar delivers a patriotic monologue on India’s brilliance resonated with the audience and is still talked about today. In a recent chat, the film’s director, Vipul Shah recalled filming that scene.

Vipul told Pinkvilla, “Akshay and Katrina had read the script and they were aware of this scene but I kept telling them that don’t go by those dialogues, I am going to get you a better scene so when they read it, they said ‘Vipul, this is a killer, it’s terrific and it’s going to be huge’.”

“My instruction to both of them was just it keep it very simple. We don’t need to push any histrionics in it. Just say it as politely as possible and it will deliver and that’s what Akshay and Katrina did,” he said. “I finished Akshay and Katrina’s dialogue part in less than 2-3 hours because they were so emotionally worked up,” he said and added, “This was the first time that Akshay did a big monologue and before that, he had not done many monologues of this kind so I was very curious to see how he is going to go about it.”

Vipul said, “Some of the Britishers said you must be making this up, this can’t be real and we said every line of it is real and they were shocked. The transformation because of the scene had already started when we were shooting and when you see this reaction, the unit and the actors get more charged,” he said and added that the Indian crew felt “more powerful than this crew of 300 from the UK”.

Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar is currently seen in Khel Khel Mein with Taapsee Pannu, Vaani Kapoor, Ammy Virk, Pragya Jaiswal, Fardeen Khan and Aditya Seal. The film hit the theatres today, August 15, clashing with Shraddha Kapoor’s Stree 2 and John Abraham’s Vedaa. Interestingly, Akshay made a surprise cameo appearance in Stree 2, confirming his entry into Amar Kaushik’s horror-comedy universe.
