While stand-up comedian Tanmay Bhat continues to be condemned for his videos which allegedly insulted two Bharat Ratna awardees -- singer Lata Mangeshkar and legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, a news report which has been published in a leading US daily has now triggered widespread outrage.

Readers were completely shocked when the New York Times referred to Lata Mageshkar as a 'so called singer' in their article. "In the expletive-laced video, which was created on Snapchat, Mr. Bhat uses that app’s face-swap feature to impersonate Sachin Tendulkar, a hugely popular cricketer who retired in 2013, and Lata Mangeshkar, a so-called playback singer for Bollywood films whose career dates to the 1940s," the NYT article read.

Within second the net exploded. “@nytimes #LataMangeshkar a "So-called" playback singer?? Ok I forgive u @nytimes , u belong 2 a country that'll be electing Trump as Prez,” said one post to ridicule the reference.

Twitter user Smita Barooah too echoed the same sentiment.

More strong reactions that were shared on Twitter.

In her incredibly flourishing career (for over seven decades) as India's most respected singer, Lata Mangeshkar had voiced several emotions and not only sung Hindi songs, but also recorded tracks in regional and foreign languages.

In her recent conversation with SpotboyE.com, the singer stated that she hasn't watched the video and doesn't intend to either. "“I have not seen the video, neither do I have any inclination to do so. I will not comment about it," said the legendary singer.

The singer apparently also stated, "I don't know who is Tanmay Bhat is."

While several actors including Anupam Kher, Riteish Deshmukh and Celina Jaitly, derided Bhat and referred to the video titled ‘Sachin v/s Lata Civil War’, as ‘not funny’, some including Sonam Kapoor and Chetan Bhagat backed the Mumbai-based comedian.
