Telecom major Bharti Airtel on Tuesday reported a 164.46 per cent year-on-year jump in its net profit to Rs 2,007.8 crore, compared with the Rs 759.2 crore reported in the corresponding period of the previous financial year. Its revenue from operations in January-March 2022 jumped 22 per cent to Rs 31,500.3 crore, against Rs 25,747.3 crore in the year-ago period.
The company’s board has also declared a dividend of Rs 3 per equity share for 2021-22. “The board of directors has recommended a dividend of Rs 3 per fully paid-up equity share of a face value Rs 5 each and Rs 0.75 per partly paid-up equity share of a face value of Rs 5 each (paid-up Rs 1.25 per equity share) for the financial year 2021-22,” the company said in a BSE filing on Tuesday.
It added that the dividend is in proportion to the amount paid-up on each equity share of face value Rs 5 each and is subject to shareholders’ approval.
The company’s Ebitda (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation) jumped 27.1 per cent year-on-year to Rs 15,998 crore during the March 2022 quarter. Its Ebitda margin stood at 50.8 per cent during the quarter under review, which is an expansion of 192 basis points on a year-on-year basis.
For the India business, the company’s revenue during the March 2022 quarter grew 23 per cent to Rs 22,500 crore. “Mobile revenues grew 25.1 per cent year-on-year on account of increase in ARPU led by healthy flow through of tariff revision and strong 4G customer additions during the year,” the company said in a statement.
In the mobile business, its average revenue per user (ARPU) jumped 22.75 per cent to 178 in the fourth quarter ended March 2022, against Rs 145 a year ago.
“The net debt-Ebitda ratio (annualised) and including the impact of leases as on March 31, 2022 is at 2.51 times as compared to 2.95 times as on March 31, 2021. We paid additional Rs 8,815 crore towards part prepayment of deferred liabilities for spectrum acquired in 2015,” the company said.
Airtel has added 21.5 million 4G customers to its network over the last year, an increase by 12 per cent year-on-year. “We continue to gain strong share of the 4G customers in the market and surpassed over the 200 million mark towards the end of Q422,” it said.
Gopal Vittal, MD and CEO (India and South Asia) of Bharti Airtel, said: “This has been another quarter to cap a full year of consistent and competitive performance across our portfolio. Our consolidated revenues for the quarter grew by 5.5 per cent and Ebitda margins expanded to 50.8 per cent, underscoring our focus on all-round delivery.”
He added that the mobile business revenues jumped 9.5 per cent, as the company saw the full flow through of tariff increase. Airtel continues to have the highest average revenue per user (ARPU) of Rs 178.
“Our homes and enterprise business continues to exhibit strong growth momentum, reflecting the resilience of our overall portfolio. Our strong balance sheet and cash flows have enabled us to further repay some of our spectrum liabilities ahead of schedule and improve our leverage,” Vittal added.
