BLACKPINK Star Jennie Turns Down Role In My Name Is Gabriel; Here's Why
Only a week after raising excitement among fans regarding her potential role in My Name is Gabriel, a source close to Jennie revealed that she won't be participating in the show.

It appears that fans of BLACKPINK member Jennie will have to wait a bit longer to see her on variety shows, as her appearance on Apartment 404 might be her sole venture for the time being. While there were earlier speculations about the South Korean rapper joining Kim Tae-oh’s upcoming reality show, My Name is Gabriel, recent reports suggest she has declined the offer.

Just a week after fans were excited by the news, a source of JTBC revealed that Jennie won’t be participating in the show. According to reports, the variety show aims to offer celebrities a glimpse into the lives of ordinary citizens in different parts of the world. Although stars like Ji Chang-wook, Yeom Hye-ran, Park Myung-soo, Hong Jin-kyung and Park Bo-gum are confirmed for the show’s premiere in June, Jennie’s agency confirmed her absence from the lineup.

JTBC informed Xports News, “Jennie is not going to appear in My Name Is Gabriel.” The rapper’s agency, Odd Atelier also confirmed the news to the same portal, stating, “Jennie received an offer but she refused it. She’s not going to participate in any entertainment program for the time being.”

Jennie’s decision to avoid television appearances might be influenced by the recent underperformance of Apartment 404. Despite generating initial excitement, the ongoing show has been struggling with declining viewership ratings. Unfortunately, the ratings continued to plummet until the release of the fourth episode, leaving uncertainty surrounding the show’s future. Viewers have expressed disappointment over the limited visibility of BLACKPINK members on the show. Reports indicate that Jennie was surprised by the negative feedback and opted out of attending the show’s dinner party due to prior work obligations. Rumours also speculate that she may not participate if a second season is produced.

Before YG Entertainment officially confirmed that all four members of the group opted not to renew their individual contracts in December last year, Jennie surprised many by announcing the establishment of her own agency, OA (Odd Atelier). With the launch of OA came thrilling news for fans, as Jennie revealed her intentions to release her full-length solo album, slated to debut by the end of 2024. Adding to the anticipation, Jennie recently delighted her fans with the release of a love song titled Slow Motion, featuring Matt Champion.
