Ace Pakistan speedster Shaheen Shah Afridi added another feather to his hat on Tuesday. Bowling against Bangladesh in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 match no 31 in Kolkata, the left-arm quick struck a century of ODI wickets as he trapped Tanzid Hasan for a duck in just the fifth delivery of his first over.

Afridi became the 21st bowler from Pakistan to take 100 or more wickets in ODIs, reaching the milestone in his 51st game. Former captain and legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram tops the list with 502 wickets in 356 matches.

The 23-year-old also breached the long-standing record of Saqlain Mushtaq to become the fastest Pakistani bowler to 100 wickets in the 50-over format. While the legendary spinner, who retired with 288 wickets in the format, got his 100th wicket in his 53rd ODI game for Pakistan.
Nepal Sandeep Lamicchane is sitting on the top of the table as he reached the milestone in just 42 matches followed by star Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan.
Shaheen made his ODI debut against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi during the Asia Cup in 2018 and has since become one of the top new ball bowlers in all formats of the game. So far, he has picked up 105 wickets in 27 Tests and 64 in 52 T20Is.

Earlier, Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and opted to bat against Pakistan. The Bangla Tigers brought back Towhid Hridoy in place of Mahedi Hasan to their playing eleven. On the other hand, Pakistan made three changes bringing in Fakhar Zaman, Agha Salman and Usama Mir in place of Imam-ul-Haq, Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz.
With the door to the semis almost closed for both teams, they will now fight to secure a place in the 2025 Champions Trophy which will see the top 7 teams of the ongoing tournament fight for the title.
