The newly elected Youth Congress state president Challa Vamsi Chand Reddy expressed hope that the Congress leadership would provide 20 percent seats to youth in the coming parliamentary and assembly elections in 2014.
The Youth Congress national committee announced the election results of Andhra Pradesh unit on its official website.
According to the number of votes received by the contestants, the unit announced a new executive committee with ten members on its website. Reddy received the highest number of votes (13,799) out of 26 others who contested the election for the Youth Congress state president post.
One of the general secretaries was placed under suspension for three months on an alleged malpractice in the organisational elections.
Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan on Monday, Reddy said in the coming assembly elections of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal the party will provide 20 percent seats to youth who would perform better in the organisational elections.
He said party would give top priority to youth in the local bodies to parliamentary elections.
Reddy said the party started elections for all the internal organisations and did away with nomination system after the AICC general secreatry Rahul Gandhi took over the party affairs.
The Youth Congress and the National Students’ Union of India have completed their organisational elections across the country and the AICC will concentrate now on their organisational elections.
The Youth Congress leader urged all the political parties to strengthen internal democracy.
