VISAKHAPATNAM/HYDERABAD: For the coming Vinayaka Chavithi on September 1, Visakhapatnam is all set to create two new records - the tallest Ganesh idol and the biggest laddu.The Sampat Vinayaka Visakha Youth association will install a 94-foot tall Ganesh (cost Rs 40 lakh approx), claimed to be the tallest in the country, at AS Raja Grounds in MVP Colony. It will also offer a laddu weighing 2,500 kg (Rs 6 lakh) to the idol. About 50 artisans from West Bengal are making the idol while a group of cooks of Suruchi Foods will prepare the laddu.“We have used clay brought from Kolkata, dry grass and water-based colour as they give a natural look to the idol and are eco-friendly. The idol will weigh around 500 tonnes,” association president T Jagadeesh Reddy told Express.Khairatabad GaneshThe Khairatabad Ganesha Utsav Committee will display a 51-foot Ganesha idol, the tallest in the city. The idol will be in the ‘Vishnu roopa’ avatar replete with the trusted Garuda and Seshanaga crowning the deity.Nearly 100 artisans are involved in shaping the idol from 18 tonnes of steel and 34 tonnes of plaster of Paris. The crafting of the idol began two months back. The Vinayaka idol will be painted over the next week leading to the Vinayaka Chaturthi celebrations starting on September 1.
